Target launches first eco-friendly store in Columbus, Ohio
Leading retailer takes strides towards sustainability with innovative Target Zero concept
RIVERBEND, Columbus, OH — April 22, 2024 — Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT), a leader in retail innovation, announces the grand opening of its first all eco-friendly store in Riverbend, Columbus, Ohio, as part of its ambitious 2030 sustainability initiative. This new store marks a significant milestone in Target’s commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible business practices.
Target Zero, the flagship eco-friendly store, showcases a curated collection of products from beloved brands such as Burt’s Bees, PLUS, Pacifica, Grove Co., and Everspring, all designed to reduce waste and promote sustainable living. Customers can shop confidently knowing that each product aligns with specific sustainability claims, including reusable, refillable, reduced plastic, recycled content, waterless or concentrated, and compostable elements.
“Our Riverbend store represents a bold step forward in our Target 2030 sustainability focus,” said Brian Cornell, CEO of Target Corporation. “We’re thrilled to introduce a retail experience that not only meets the needs of our valued customers but also champions environmental responsibility. This store embodies our commitment to making sustainable living accessible and enjoyable for all.”

In addition to the eco-friendly product offerings, the Riverbend store features fresh local produce, bulk bins filled with essentials like tea, coffee, pasta, spices, nuts, seeds, beans, grains, and dried fruits. Furthermore, Target has gone fully paperless and plastic-free at this location, eliminating plastic bags at checkout and providing only paper or reusable Target totes.
The sustainability efforts extend beyond product offerings and packaging. The Riverbend store operates entirely on solar energy and implements measures to minimize water waste, underscoring Target’s holistic approach to environmental conservation.
Furthermore, Target is proud to announce its partnership with Sustainable Columbus, pledging to donate 2% of the Riverbend store’s profits to support the organization’s charitable fund. This commitment aligns seamlessly with Target’s longstanding tradition of giving back to communities, dating back to 1946.
